Raised Bed Gardening on Your Schedule
Gardening can be a lot of fun but it can also be a lot of work. One of the reasons I am so passionate about hydroponics is because so much of the process can be automated. You can have lighting, pumps, fans, meters, monitors, and dosage all completely automated. Gardening in the dirt organically does a better job grounding you to nature however. When the weather is nice it can be a real pleasure working the soil of your garden on a beautiful day. So how do we reconcile these seemingly far apart methods of gardening?
DIY Garden Irrigation Automation
By combining some of the methods of managing different aspects of gardening we can add some simple features using common products such as a garden hose, a soaker hose, and a simple to use hose timer. These products can easily be hooked up and drastically improve the tediousness of watering your garden on a daily basis. In this video you can see how we were able to utilize the Orbit garden faucet timer in order to automate a very labor intensive aspect of our raised be garden.
This DIY setup drastically cut down the amount of time that was needed gardening each day. Don’t worry though because you will still have plenty of time to spend on other garden tasks such as weeding and harvesting!
Now if you are unsure about the difficulty of using a timer like this I suggest watching this other video on the Orbit timer that shows just how simple and easy it is to set the timer and ultimately use it. The video does a good job explaining how to use the timer including how to turn on the manual mode for watering through the timer whenever you like.
Hopefully this information can help you take your gardening to the next level or at least give you more time to enjoy the things about gardening that you really like to do. This configuration will allow just about any budget to have the wonderful feature of automatic irrigation for watering your garden and like always I would not recommend it if I did not like it!
